In almost every section of the IMAT you will need to know some basic mathematics. In particular, you should know…

  • Arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
  • All the squared numbers (up to 202)
  • All the cubed numbers (up to 103)
  • The prime numbers (up to 100 at the minimum)
  • How to work with percentages, decimals, and fractions

This is obviously nothing conceptually difficult, but it is vital you get practice. Most high school students are used to using calculators for basic mathematics like this and thus are often unprepared for the tasks in the IMAT. So, make sure you become comfortable with arithmetic without a calculator.
