IMAT 2026 Exam Date (Expected + Official Updates)

MUR has published an announcement confirming the date of the IMAT 2026. On the 3rd of July they announced it would be held on the 8th of October, then revised it a day later to the 30th of September, but it has since been revised again to the 29th of September.

The IMAT will be held on the 29th of September 2026. More information about the test is still to come. Read the new updated announcement here.

This date is a bit later than usual, which provides students with more time to prepare for the test. You can find the official announcement from MUR here

IMPORTANT: The exam was initially announced to be 8th of October, but this is no longer the case. Make sure to keep updated about these kinds of changes to avoid confusion.

When Will the IMAT 2026 Exam Date Be Announced?

The IMAT exam date is typically announced by the Italian Ministry of Education (MUR) in mid-year, usually between June and July. This year the date was announced on the 3rd of July 2026 and then revised on the 4th of July, being revised again weeks later.

Once announced, students usually have a limited window to complete registration via the Universitaly portal.

Usually, the IMAT exam takes place in early to mid September 2026. This year it will be held in late September.

  1. Hi! Thank you for the great content. Any idea when will IMAT date and syllabus be released? And will it be similar than before or are major changes expected? I sat the IMAT last year but missed my top choices and started preparing for next IMAT. Now I got accepted in to veterinary medicine after many rounds of scrolling. I would not want to take a spot from someone who really wants to go to vet school but I don’t know if it’s stupid not to accept the place…

    1. There is no official release date, but July is a typical time for the syllabus to be issued. Usually there are no changes to the syllabus and we thus should expect it to remain the same as previous years.

      Regarding accepting veterinary medicine, this is a personal decision. You will need to ask yourself if this career path is what you wish to pursue or if you see yourself as a future doctor.

  2. Thank you for the reply! Ok, so it will be a few more months… I don’t know why I thought it’s released in May already. Becoming a vet was once my dream but now I definitely would want to become a doctor. I guess it’s not possible to apply a transfer from vet school to med school? I mean the procedure during studies. Maybe I just have to trust the IMAT will continue and ace it this year!

    1. I would suggest thinking carefully about which path you prefer. Youve done a great job securing a spot in veterinary school, but if your dream is to become a doctor, then the IMAT this year is the way to achieve it
